Collected News: May 27 – June 2, 2013

Each week I’ll take a look at what toy (and related) news have been announced and share what news I’m most excited about!

Hot Toys & RoboCop

In 1987, movie audiences were introduced to the future of law enforcement! The tag line read “Part man. Part machine. All cop!” The movie was RoboCop!

Directed by Paul Verhoeven, the movie was set in Detroit’s dystopic future that focused on Officer Alex Murphy (played by actor Peter Weller) who is murdered by a band of criminals. OCP,  the evil corporation that controls the city, then took the decreased Murphy and transformed him into RoboCop: a crime fighting cyborg for the police force.

On May 30th, 2013, Hot Toys had announced their new RoboCop line. This line will include the following:

1/6th scale RoboCop Collectible Movie Masters Series Die Cast Figure
1/6th scale ED-209 Collectible
1/6th scale RoboCop Collectible Movie Masters Series Die Cast Figure with Mechanical Chair

Hot Toys’ MMS Diecast Series: 1/6th scale RoboCop Collectible Figure.

Hot Toys’ MMS Diecast Series: 1/6th scale ED-209 Collectible.

Hot Toys’ MMS Diecast Series: 1/6th scale RoboCop Collectible Figure with Mechanical Chair.

Hot Toys is also will be producing a unhelmeted version of the RoboCop figure for this line. The figures will have multiple points of articulation, interchangeable parts and include sound effects that will feature memorable quotes from the movie.

RoboCop is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time! I haven’t started my Hot Toys collection (yet), but I would definitely would consider purchasing these items! Hot Toys continue to amaze me with their high quality and detail.

And speaking of cyborgs…

New Vintage Style 3.75″ Six Million Dollar Man Figures by Zica Toys

On May 31st, 2013, Zica Toys had announced that they will produce 3.75″ scale action figures based on the Six Million Dollar Man television series (1974 -1978).

Adapted from Martin Caidin’s novel, Cyborg, the television series starred actor Lee Majors. Majors played Colonel Steven Austin: a former American astronaut who survived an aircraft crash but is loses an arm, his legs and an eye. Austin is given bionic implants, then works for a government office and had multiple adventures over the 4 years of the original television run.

The first assortment from Zica Toys will feature Colonel Austin (in his familiar red track suit) and Bionic Bigfoot!

3.75″ Six Million Dollar Man Figures (Assortment 1) by Zica Toys.

These figures are very reminiscent of Kenner’s large scale Six Million Dollar Man figures from the 1970s. I enjoyed the show when I was growing up and the Kenner version of the character was one of my earliest action figures I had. (You can read more about that here.) I’m very excited to get these figures and set them up with other 3.75″ scale figures from my collection (like my Kenner RoboCop)! No specific date has been announced yet on the Zica Toys website, but hopefully this line will be available soon.

That’s it for this week, friends! Have a good week!
