Collected News: May 20 – 26, 2013

Each week I’ll take a look at what toy (and related) news have been announced and share what news I’m most excited about!

World’s Largest Lego Model Revealed in NYC

On May 23rd, 2013 in Times Square, New York City, the world’s largest Lego model was revealed to the public as part of  the LEGO® Star Wars™  event celebration of the upcoming Cartoon Network series: The Yoda Chronicles. Over a year in the making with 32 model builders, a 1:1 replica of the LEGO® X-Wing Starfighter was created! The model is 42-foot long, weighs approximately 46,000 pounds, using more than 5.3 million LEGO bricks and took over 17,000 hours to build. After May 25th, the model will be moved to the LEGOLAND® California Resort outside San Diego, where it will reside for the rest of this year for visitors.

I just recently been getting back into LEGO and seeing on-line this life-sized X-Wing Starfighter was epic! Wish I had actually been there for the event!

Aliens Marine vs Warrior 2-Pack: Behind the Scenes with NECA

On May 24th, 2013, NECA had posted on their twitter feed a few behind the scenes photos of their upcoming Aliens Marine vs Warrior 2-Pack (coming this summer). The 2-pack will feature a variant on Corporal Hicks with a helmet. I’m a fan of the Alien franchise and I will definitely be picking up this pack. I hope we also get a 2-pack with a Private Hudson with his helmet or even another Colonial Marine character.

DC Collectibles SDCC Exclusive – Batman Arkham City: Hugo Strange Action Figure

On May 20th, 2013, DC Collectibles announced four “con-exclusives” for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The one item I am really excited for is the Batman Arkham City: Hugo Strange Action Figure! The figure of course is based on the Batman: Arkham City video game by Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Sculpted by Sam Greenwell, the figure measures approximately 6.75” tall and is priced at $29.95. Hugo Strange is in my top 10 favorite Batman villains. (One of  favorite Hugo Strange stories from DC Comics is “The Triumph of Hugo Strange” (Batman Annual # 10, 1986); Strange takes over Bruce Wayne’s business and fortune, leaving Batman out on the streets!)

I have the Hugo Strange figure from DC Direct’s Batman Secret Files Series 2: Rogues Gallery line, but would really like to add this one to my collection.
